How come the 505 Happy Hour Clubs meet on Wednesdays, and not on the weekends? Wednesday afternoon is the natural "hump day" or mid-week break, but more importantly it is difficult to motivate people to try something different on the weekends. Friday & Saturday nights we would be competing with date nights, weddings, weekend getaways, and more - but on Wednesdays most people are trapped in their work-week and looking for an escape. In addition, it is one of the slowest nights in the restaurant industry. So if we show up on a Wednesday night with only 5 people and spend $100-300 - we are heroes as we really impacted the bottom line for a small business (and imagine when we show up with 50!).
Why 505? Well, its more of a concept than a hard and fixed number. The concept is "Done work at Five, at the bar by 5:05", however when we have happy hour events the crowd doesn't usually get there til after 630.
What are the dues? NO DUES. NO NAMETAGS. NO MEMBERSHIP. We learned a long time ago that in our generation most people don't RSVP and hate to be pinned down, so we made 505 flexible. Show up if you want, and if you don't - don't. We basically line up a location, a time & date and an environment that is fun and conducive to social and business networking.
